2017 marks an especially ambitious year for Australian rock ensemble King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, being that they not only put out 5 studio albums that year, but 5 drastically different and unique albums. Polygondwanaland is the 4th from the run and the 12th studio album overall. The name “Polygondwanaland” is a portmanteau of the words Polygon and Gondwana, with polygon referring to the intricate instrumentation of the songs and Gondwana (a supercontinent that predates the more recent Pangea) corresponding to the primeval narrative cryptically described by the esoteric lyrics.
